Eldon Hurlburt

November 20, 1925 — December 8, 2015

Eldon R. Hurlburt, 90, of Fort Dodge, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home, Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 11, 2015 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with Pastor Duran officiating. Burial will follow at North Lawn Cemetery with Military Rites by United States Army and V.F.W. Post 1856. A visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. Eldon is survived by his wife, Valerian of Fort Dodge; children, Kathy (Larry) Mestnik of Colorado Springs, CO; Kevin (Becky) Hurlburt of Richmond, IN; Keith (Cathy) Hurlburt of Minneapolis, MN; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ora and Kate (Householder) Hurlburt; six brothers; and two sisters. Eldon Raymond Hurlburt was born November 20, 1925 in Lone Rock, IA. He was raised and educated in Lone Rock until his junior year of high school. Eldon's family then moved to Fairmont, MN where he continued his education and graduated from Fairmont High School in 1943. After graduating, Eldon enlisted and served in the Navy. He married Vera Schnittger in 1946. Eldon then continued to serve our country and enlisted in the Army. Vera passed away in 1953. On April 7, 1956, Eldon was united in marriage to Valerian Jentz in Fairmont, MN. The couple lived in various locations while Eldon served in the army. After 21 years, Eldon retired from the service and the couple established their home in Fort Dodge. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years, and he and Val enjoyed 17 years of spending the winters in Arizona. Eldon was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
