Eleanor Helan Buffington

Eleanor H. Buffington, 95, of Fort Dodge, died Saturday September 21, 2013 at the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center. Funeral services will be held 1:30 P.M. Tuesday, September 24, 2013 in the chapel of the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating. Burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. A Visitation will begin at 12:00 P.M. until the time of services at the funeral home. Survivors include her son, Jack (Gloria) of Fort Dodge; daughter-in-law, Twila Buffington of Mebane, North Caroline; grandchildren, Chris Buffington of Fort Dodge, Scott (Trish) Buffington of Fort Dodge, Tamara (Tim) Johnson of Duran, North Carolina, David (Brook) Buffington of Anderson, South Carolina; three great grandchildren, Zachary, Jacob, and Lyla Buffington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; son, Dan; brothers, Jack Simpson and Bill and Jim Kelley. Eleanor Helan Simpson, the daughter of Irvin and Ella Simpson, was born April 1, 1918 in Omaha, Nebraska. After her father's death, she moved with her mother and brother to Fort Dodge where her mother married Peter Kelly. Eleanor attended and graduated from Fort Dodge Schools. She united in marriage to Carl Buffington in 1940 at Fort Dodge where the couple made their home. Eleanor worked for Hormels on the bacon line for 18 years. She and Carl then retired and moved to Otho in 1972. After Carl's death in 1989, she continued to live in her home in Otho until 2012 when she moved to the Villa Care Center. Eleanor's biggest love was dogs, including hers and everyone else's. She also enjoyed her family, neighbors, and friends. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
