Twin Lakes Elizabeth J. "Betty" Sandvig 92, passed away Friday, December 30, 2022 at Good Samaritan Society in Manson. Funeral Services for Betty and Jack Sandvig will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2023 at St. Francis Catholic Church, Rockwell City, with Father Jim Bruch officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Church until service time. Burial of caskets will be at St. Margarets Cemetery in Rolfe. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family. Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City is serving the family. The Funeral Service will be live streamed on the Palmer & Swank Funeral Home Facebook Page. Betty is survived by her daughters, Sara (David) Staver of Twin Lakes, and Cindy (David) Foxhoven of Doniphan, NE; grandchildren, Mike (Jen) Staver of Centennial, CO, and Phil Staver of Des Moines; step-grandchildren, Matt (Crystal) Foxhoven of Antioch, CA, and Ann (Bart) Eskeldson of Eskridge, KS; great-grandchildren, Carson Staver and Kyle Staver; step-great-grandchildren, Auston Foxhoven and Braxton Foxhoven; sister-in-law Esther Sinek of Rolfe; 11 nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. Her husband Jack passed away January 2, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Margaret (Shimon) Sinek; sister Mary Margaret Vainreb; brothers, Don Sinek and Paul Sinek; and brother-in-law Joe Vainreb. Elizabeth Jane "Betty" Sinek was born July 10, 1930 at Rolfe, Iowa. She graduated from Rolfe High School with the Class of 1948. Betty attended Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls, and received her Elementary Education degree from Buena Vista University. Betty taught 12 years in elementary grades in the public and parochial schools in Ruthven, Iowa and Cherokee, Iowa. The following 17 years were spent teaching the behaviorally disordered at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute. On May 30, 1952 she was united in marriage to Jack Sandvig at St. Margarets Catholic Church in Rolfe. In 1992, the couple returned to Iowa City and then made their home at Twin Lakes in 2007. Betty was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Rockwell City, Catholic Daughters of America, the University of Iowa Foundation; The Needleworkers, Court Delores #458, and the Federated Book Club.
