Callender- Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Hanson, 98 passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at the Marian Home in Fort Dodge.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Callender with Pastor Greg Stano and Pastor Deb Stano officiating. Burial will follow in the Callender Cemetery. A visitation will be 9:30 AM Saturday until service time at the church. Laufersweiler Palmer & Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born on May 14, 1926 to Arthur and Luella Sollie, she grew up in Callender, IA. She was a life-long member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Callender; being baptized, confirmed and married in the church. Betty graduated from Callender High School and the attended and graduated from St.Olaf College in Northfield, MN. She finished college with a triple major in Biology, Sociology, and Psychology. She then moved to Coon Rapids, IA and taught elementary school for a short time.
She married Garland C. Hanson on February 23, 1949 in Callender. They established their home on a farm by Slifer and Betty began a long career of being a homemaker and farmer's wife. She kept books for the farm and delivered hundreds of morning and afternoon lunches, dinners and suppers to the fields. Betty and Garland raised three boys on the farm; David C., Daniel J., and James A.
Her away from the farm activities revolved around her strong commitment to the church. She was a Sunday school teacher, Luther League advisor, choir member, assisting minister, circle and ladies group member, as well as serving on numerous boards. Betty was active in Dane Circle and sang in the Webster County Women's Chorus, as well as serving as an election poll worker for many years. She was an avid reader and completed many Bible study courses.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Garland; son, Jim; parents; and brother, Arthur "Bud" Sollie.
She is survived by her sons Dave (Ruth) Hanson and Dan (Ranette) Hanson; grandchildren, Ted Hanson (Morgan), Hillary Lyons (Chad), Katie Hanson, Ben Hanson, John Hanson (Carly) and Joe Hanson; great-grandchildren, Camden and Tenley Lyons, Hannah Hanson, and Lukas Hanson; siblings, JoAnne Pliner and Judy Payne; and sister-in-law, Jeanette Sollie.
Memorials may be left to family discretion.
