Rockwell City- Elsworth L. Bigelow, 93, passed away Sunday, December 2, 2018 at the Marian Home in Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Friday, December 7, 2018 at St. Pauls Lutheran and Presbyterian Church in Rockwell City with Pastor James Hoover Mossman officiating. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Rockwell City with military rites conducted by the Rockwell City Veterans Organization. Visitation and viewing will be 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Palmer and Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City. Memorials may be left to family discretion. Elsworth Lee Bigelow, son of William and Viola (England) Bigelow, was born January 26, 1925 in Rockwell City. He graduated from Rockwell City High School in 1942. He then attended NYA school in Fort Dodge. Following his education, he worked at Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, WA. He joined the Merchant Marines and attended basic training at Sheepshead Bay, NY. He served on the G. W. Goethals Army Transport that took troops into Normandy and sailed on other Liberty ships until the end of the war. He then farmed at Jolley, IA and Ostrander, MN. He worked at Crenlo in Rochester, MN, Chrysler in Belvidere, IL and was a maintenance foreman at Tex-Tech, Inc. in Tempe, AZ until his retirement. In 1993, he moved back to Rockwell City. He was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran & Presbyterian Church in Rockwell City. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Ada (Smith) Bigelow; son, Gary; brothers, Charles and Raymond. He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen (Richard) Buresh of Mission, TX; 4 grandsons and 9 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
