Elverna L. Askeland

Elverna L. Askeland, 95, of Fort Dodge passed away Friday, April 14, 2017 at the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with Rev. Nicholas Thackery officiating. Burial will be at Colfax Township Cemetery near Vincent. A visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the church Tuesday. Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home is serving the family. Elverna is survived by her son, Gary Askeland of Norman, OK; son-in-law, Dan Allen of Fort Dodge; four grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by parents, Walter and Martha (Dencklau) Schliske; husband, Elmer Askeland in 2005; daughter, Kathey Allen; and brother, Alvin Schliske. Elverna Lucille Schliske was born October 20, 1921 in Fort Dodge. She attended the Colfax Township Schools. Elverna was united in marriage to Elmer Askeland on October 23, 1946 at St. John's Lutheran Church, near Vincent. The couple farmed various locations in Webster County. In 1965, they moved to Fort Dodge. Elverna worked Sue's Draperies for a number of years in addition to being a homemaker. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
