Emmett Patrick Ascherl

November 18, 1934 — March 22, 2016

Emmett P. Ascherl, 81 of Scottsdale, AZ, formerly of Fort Dodge, IA, died Tuesday March 22, 2016 at Hospice of the Valley, Eckstein Center, in Scottsdale, AZ. Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 16, 2016 in the Chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. Burial will be at Elkhorn Township Cemetery, near Moorland, with military rites presented by V.F.W. Post 1856 and United States Army Guard. A visitation will be 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home. Survivors include his daughters, Debbie (Doug) Willett of Fort Dodge, IA, and Diane Ascherl of Phoenix, AZ; sons, Rob (Jill) Ascherl of Anthem, AZ; Tim (Angela) Ascherl of Spirit Lake, IA; Rick (Gaybrielle) Brown of Calgary, Canada; nine grandchildren, Michelle Willett of Fort Dodge, IA; Megan Owen of Phoenix, AZ; Nick, Katie and Thomas Ascherl of Anthem, AZ; Addie and TJ Ascherl of Spirit Lake, IA; Zoey and Zachary Brown of Calagary, Canada; one great granddaughter, Kalarina Ascherl of Anthem, AZ; sister, Helen (Dave) Coppinger of Waukee, IA; brother, Paul Ascherl of Emmetsburg, IA; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. Emmett was born on November 18, 1934 at home in Fort Dodge, IA, to Hughie & Marie (Crowley) Ascherl. He attended Fort Dodge Public Schools and was a Veteran of the Korean War from January 1955 to January 1957. He married Rosanne Pliner on January 5, 1961. Emmett was a Farmer and Owner/Operator of Ascherl Circle Steel for most of his life. He enjoyed sports, especially High School Wrestling and Iowa Hawkeye Football. He loved spending time at Lake Okoboji and smoking ribs with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosanne Ascherl; sister, Irene Kerlin Templeton; brother, Tom Ascherl; and his parents, Hughie and Marie (Crowley) Ascherl. Memorial funds will go to the Spinal Cord Injury Association of Iowa.
