Erlene M. Kommes, 76, of Fort Dodge passed away Saturday, July 4, 2015 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2015 in the Chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Corpus Christi Cemetery. A visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Erlene is survived by her husband, Ken; children, Kim (Denny) Stuhrenberg of Clare; Dennis (Vicki) Kommes of Slater; Donna (Kevin) Stuhrenberg of Sergeant Bluff; Kevin (Joni) Kommes of Des Moines; Judee Kommes (Dave Tappe) of Fort Dodge; Janelle (Darrell) Knowlton of Culver, IN; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Eldon Thompson of Sergeant Bluff; sisters, Kay Waltz of Sioux City; Erma Hecht of Merrill; Evalee Waltz of Waukee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Esther (Davis) Thompson; brother, Errol Thompson; sister, Estella Shekels; 3 infant grandchildren, Aubrei; Ryan; and Sarah. Erlene Mary Thompson was born February 14, 1939 in Sioux Rapids. She attended schools in Hinton and graduated from Hinton High School. Erlene was united in marriage to Kenneth Kommes on December 30, 1959 in LeMars. The couple lived in Danbury for two years and then moved to Granville. In 1976, the family established their home in Fort Dodge. She was employed with Bernie's Fire Clean-Up and also cleaned houses in the area for a number of years. Erlene was a homemaker and a loving mom and wife. She had a passion for sewing, quilting, scrapbooking and enjoyed listening to Elvis. Erlene was also a member of Holy Trinity Parish. She also assisted with the church Prayer Line for a number of years. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
