Esther D. Long

Gowrie- Esther D. Long, 88, passed away Friday, June 28, 2019 at Greene County Medical Center, Jefferson. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at United Methodist Church, Gowrie with Pastor Susan Rohden officiating. Burial will be in Gowrie Township Cemetery. A visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 pm Monday, July 1, 2019 at Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie Survivors include sons, Bruce (Lori) Long and Dale Long both of Gowrie; daughter, Lorene (Robert) Hemping of Jefferson; granddaughters, Miranda and Kelsie Hemping; step-grandchildren, Michael (Sarah) Eslick, Caitlin (Tony) Bernau, and Cheyenne (Tony) Jones; 6 great-grandchildren; and sister, Marjorie (Dwight) Groom of Rowan; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Fern (Watts) McKinley; husband, Lawrence E. Long; son, Brian Long; and brother, Lewis McKinley. Esther Darlene McKinley was born December 21, 1930 in Rowan, IA. She graduated Rowan High School in 1948. Esther was employed as a telephone operator in Webster City. On December 5, 1952, she was united in marriage to Lawrence E. Long in Webster City. Esther farmed with her husband in the Gowrie area and owned and operated Longs Farm Drainage until 1988. She also worked for Lizer Livestock Auction for 42 years. She was a member of United Methodist Church, Gowrie and was an active member of UMW and delivered for Congregate Meals for 25 years. Memorials may be left to family discretion.
