Esther Degelau, 72, of Callender passed away Monday, December 27, 2021 at Trinity Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Jerry Raether officiating. There will be a visitation beginning 1 hour prior to the start of the service at the church. Laufersweiler Funeral Home is serving the family. Esther is survived by her sons, Rick Degelau (Jackie) of Boone and their children, Breanna Glesne (Jake) of Ogden and Brandon Degelau of Boone. Jason Degelau (Laurel) of Marshalltown and their children, Ashanni Brooks of Ames and Jasmine and Gabriel both at home. Sisters, Sandra (Donald) Schaumburg, Janice (Jack) Hendrickson, and Matilda (Denny) Whittington all of Fort Dodge. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Esther (Felky) Coleman and siblings, Jerry, Larry, Paul and Merle Coleman, Joanne McCarville, Joyce Farmer, Roberta Brundige, Beverly Selhaver, Marilyn Gibson, Mavis Smith and Jackie Beekman. Esther Colleen Coleman was born January 18, 1949 in Fort Dodge. She attended Fort Dodge public schools and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School. She was united in marriage to Dennis Degelau on August 2, 1969 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. She was employed with Globe Union for many years. The family moved to Spirit Lake in 1986. Esther then returned to college at Iowa Lakes and later graduated from Buena Vista University with her Bachelor's degree in criminal justice and psychology. She was a longtime social worker in the Northwest Iowa Region. In 2004, the couple moved to Callender where she later retired. She enjoyed spending time with family and close friends. Her hobbies were sewing and creating unique greeting cards. Memorials may be left to family discretion.
