Evelyn Francis Wakeman

Evelyn F. Wakeman, 96, of Fort Dodge passed away Monday, May 11, 2015 at the Marian Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating. Burial will follow at the Otho Cemetery. A visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home Wednesday. Evelyn Francis Powers, daughter of Frank and Thelma (Chilson) Powers, was born on August 18, 1918 in Fort Dodge. She was raised and educated in Fort Dodge. After graduating from high school, Evelyn worked for "Constatines" in Fort Dodge until 1941. Evelyn was united in marriage to Lewis Wakeman on August 23, 1941. The couple established their home and farmed in Otho area for 47 years, until moving back to Fort Dodge in 1988. Evelyn worked for Trinity Regional Medical Center for 25 years in admitting. Evelyn is survived by her sons, Joe (Joan) of Johnston; Donald (Linda) of Duncombe; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; brother, Ed Powers of Omaha, NE; and James Powers of Deming, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lewis; one sister, Helen Black; one brother, John Powers; and a great-grandson, Jason Sweazey. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
