Celebration of Life Service for Mr. & Mrs. Francisco and Barbara Cabrera will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Manson. Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home is serving the family. Francisco Antonio Cabrera was born on November 17, 1938 in Santai-Stiricust, Cuba. He was able to have the great opportunity to come to the United States from Cuba in the 1950's. He was granted a scholarship at Parsons College in Fairfield, IA where he was an excellent student. He became a successful chemist and received numerous patents for the animal pharmaceuticals he invented. He worked at Fort Dodge Labs for 25 years, eventually becoming Director in Pharmaceutical Sciences. In 1987 he joined a friends on business venture in Des Moines that was later bought by Bayer. He then moved to Overland Park, Kansas and worked for Bayer until his retirement in 2001. After retirement he did consulting jobs for Bayer, Farnam, and other companies. He enjoyed his work and his biggest joy was spending time with his family. He met his wife Barbara in Spanish club at college and they were joined in marriage on December 27th, 1959. They were married for 55 years and their love story continued up to their final days as Barbara passed away on May 1st, 2014 just a few days before him. Francisco will be sadly missed by his son Steve (Kim) Cabrera of Barnum Iowa and his three grandchildren Jill (Andrew) Carlson, Steve and Brad Cabrera and one great-granddaughter Ava Carlson and his only sister, Deisy (Jack) Harrington and family, Keokuk, IA. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Cabrera, parents and son Antonio Cabrera (1998) and a daughter Linda who died at birth. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
