Frank D. Patterson

Franklin D. Patterson, 86, of Fort Dodge passed away Sunday, December 15, 2019 at the Marian Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 19th at 10:30 AM in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery with military rites provided by the V.F.W. Post 1856 and the United States Navy Honor Guard. A visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Franklin Devon Patterson was born on July 28, 1933 in Iowa City, Iowa to Floyd and Edna (Hayes) Patterson. He attended Fort Dodge schools, graduating in 1951 from Fort Dodge High school. He enlisted in the United States Navy, serving during the Korean conflict. Frank married Verla Sabin on November 29, 1954. She passed away on November 9, 2012, just shy of 58 years of marriage. Frank worked at Hormel for 33 years until the plant closed. He then worked at Iowa Medical Supply and later at A1 Medical until his retirement. In his younger days, Frank was an excellent wrestler in high school and in the US Navy. He also pitched softball, coached wrestling at Corpus Christi School for 15 years, enjoyed bowling and golf. Most of all, Frank enjoyed his family, including children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Survivors include his sons, Steve (Sandy) Patterson of Clinton, Ia. Todd Patterson of Fort Dodge, grandchildren Mike (Nindah) Patterson of Tampa, Florida, Travis (Amber) Patterson and Justin ( Rhiannon ) Patterson, both of Fort Dodge, and Amber Patterson of Davenport, IA, 2 great grandchildren Natalie and Cora Patterson of Fort Dodge, brothers Rich, Robert, David and Rodney Patterson, and his sister Ellen Cassidy. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Verla, sisters, Evelyn and Darlene, brothers, William Patterson and Larry Patterson. Memorials may be left to family discretion.
