Frank Vit

Frank G. Vit, 80, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2024 at the Marian Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, December 30th at Holy Trinity Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating the Mass of Christian burial. Military Rites will follow the services at the church by the V.F.W. Post 1856 and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Visitation will be on Sunday, December 29th from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at Laufersweiler Funeral Home. The family requests that everyone who attends the visitation wear their favorite Iowa Hawkeye gear.

Frank John Vit and his wife Sue of Fort Dodge, grandchildren Mya (Jack) Kersten, Anthony Lacina, Christopher Lacina, Samantha Vit all of Fort Dodge, Jeremy Crimmins of Fort Dodge, Dave (Ashley) Crimmins of Dubuque, Jim (Liz) Crimmins of Boone, Keri (Kirk) Froisland of Fort Dodge, great grandchildren, Grace, Mara, Tyler, Kaden, Karston, Callie, Mack, and Daphne, 2 great great grandchildren Saylor and Kalvin, his dear friend Bruce Carlson, brothers Thomas Vit and his wife Ellen of Fort Dodge, William Vit and his wife Becky of Fort Dodge, and sister Patricia McTaggart of Coralville, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded by his parents Frank and Gladys (Sawyer) Vit, brother-in-law Bill McTaggart.

Frank Glenn Vit was born July 31, 1944 in Fort Dodge. He was raised and educated here and graduated from St. Edmond High School in 1962. From 1962 to 1965. Frank served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was stationed on the USS Ranger. His ship was out to sea the longest during the conflict and was the first ship to bomb Vietnam. In 1966 he was united in marriage to Mary Brezovan and a couple established their home in Fort Dodge. Frank worked for Iowa Beef Packer, Hormel's and retired in 2005 from Electrolux. He was a member of United Packinghouse Workers and the United Auto Workers where he served as chairman from 1993 to 1999. He was a member of Holy Trinity Church. Frank enjoyed playing golf, was a constant prankster, and was an avid lifelong Iowa Hawkeye fan. Frank was also a longtime friend of Dr. Bob and Bill W. He loved being able to help others.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
