Franklin Charles Messerly

Franklin C. Messerly, 91, of Moorland passed away, Monday, January 20, 2014 at his home. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 24, 2014 at the UCC/Congregational of Moorland with Rev. Jim Davis officiating. A visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. He is survived by his wife of nearly 73 years, Betty; sons, Franklin D. (Elaine) of Moorland and Keith Messerly of Fort Dodge; eleven grandchildren, Brian (Sue); Annette (Mark); Jeanette (Scott); Darwin (Julie); Lisa (Dan); Dan; John (Gayle); Tim (Marcy); Mark (Rhonda); Christine; Jennifer; and many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Anna (Benson) Messerly; daughter, Marlys Traster; great-granddaughter, Blair Marie Messerly; great-grandson, Kyle Ellsbury; sisters, Edna, Lillian and Eileen. Franklin Charles Messerly was born July 14, 1922 in Fort Dodge. In 1926, Franklin moved with his family to a farm north of Moorland, where he resided until the time of his passing. He attended the Moorland schools. He was united in marriage to Betty Daniels on May 10, 1941. Franklin farmed for all his life. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
