Pomeroy Gary D. Thompson 56, passed away Sunday, September 2, 2018 at Accura HealthCare of Pomeroy following a lengthy illness with Parkinsons disease. Memorial Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018 at St. Francis Catholic Church, Rockwell City, with Fr. Lynn Bruch officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial of cremains will be at Lake Creek Township Cemetery, Southwest of Rockwell City. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, at the Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City. Gary is survived by his siblings, Thresa Burds of Waterloo, Ronald (Marilyn) Thompson of Rockwell City, Julie (Marvin) Turpen of Arab, AL, and Michael Thompson of Rockwell City; 12 nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. and Margaret Z. (Kyles) Thompson; and brother-in-law Daniel Burds. Gary Dean Thompson was born September 23, 1961 at Fort Dodge, Iowa. Gary graduated from Rockwell City High School, with the Class of 1980, and studied Mechanical Engineering at Iowa State University. Following his education, he moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado and worked with small engine repair for many years. He returned to Iowa and made his home in Pomeroy. Gary worked at Iowa Hydraulics, and Armstrong Machine Co. in Pocahontas. He finished his career by operating his own small engine repair business and working for the United States Post Office. Garys hobbies include riding his orange and black Harley, fishing and hunting with friends, and was a toy train collector enthusiast. He was a past member of The Sons of AmVet and participated in Memorial Day Services, and with the Pomeroy Honor Guard. The Thompson Family wishes to thank the employees and residents of Accura HealthCare of Pomeroy for their excellent care Gary received.
