Gene F Meisch

Gene Francis Meisch, age 88, went to his heavenly home on September 19, 2015 at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge, Iowa. A celebration of his life will take place on Sunday, September 27, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Celebration Center at Friendship Haven. Burial will be held at a later date in Winona, MN at Woodlawn Cemetery. Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home is serving the family. Gene was born on September 14, 1927 in Mt. Vernon Township, Winona County, Minnesota, to Otto and Dora Drenckhahn-Meisch. He married Joyce Mosiman on February 14, 1947 in Billings, Montana and they made their home in Altura, Minnesota. Gene was a man of many talents - he raised turkeys, farmed, distributed animal health products for Carnation Genetics, sold real estate and performed land appraisals. After retirement, Gene and Joyce lived in Brainerd, Minnesota and then in Rochester, Minnesota to be near family. For the past 10 years he lived in Fort Dodge, Iowa to be near his youngest 4 grandchildren. He is survived by: three daughters, Zinda (Michael) Bartz of Tucson, AZ; Zandra Kessler of Rochester, MN; Darcy (Dr. Michael) Lee of Fort Dodge, IA; one son, Gregory (Carol) Meisch of Franklin, TN; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and one brother, Otto Fred Meisch of Altura, MN. He is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; his parents; three sisters; and two brothers. Gene loved traveling with Joyce and spending time with his family. He enjoyed going to his grandchildren's sporting events and being their biggest fan. He was an avid hunter and loved sharing that experience with his grandsons. His passion was growing grapes, making wine, growing orchids and making his famous caramels.
