George E. Fawkes, 90, of Fort Dodge passed away Friday, December 20, 2019, at the Simpson Health Care Center, Friendship Haven. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, January 11, 2019, at First United Methodist Church in Fort Dodge. A visitation will precede the service beginning at 9:30 at the church. George is survived by his wife, Deloris Fawkes; sons, Mike (Linda) of San Francisco, CA, Larry (Elizabeth) of Charlottesville, VA, Kurt (Janet) of Naples, FL, and Bruce (Lisa) of Cary, IL; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and sister, Marilyn Johnson of Tampa, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dwight and Berdina (Finley) Fawkes, brothers Gordon and Dwight, and sisters Berdina Jean, Leola, JoAnn and Beverly. George Elwood Fawkes was born November 2, 1929 in Otho, Iowa and graduated from Otho High School. He then attended college in Visalia, CA. In 1949, he moved to Fort Dodge and began a career of more than 40 years with National Gypsum. He was Office Manager at the Fort Dodge plant at the time of his retirement in 1992. On December 26, 1950, George was united in marriage to Deloris Nellis. George and Deloris traveled extensively across the U.S. and globally. George was a lifelong sports enthusiast and coached youth sports for a number of years. He also served with the Iowa National Guard. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Fort Dodge Public Library or to a charity of your choice.
