George Edwin Bacon

March 25, 1932 — November 6, 2015

Ed Bacon, 83, of Fort Dodge, passed away Friday, November 6, 2015 at his home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Allen Henderson officiating. Burial will follow at North Lawn Cemetery. A visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. Ed is survived by his wife, Georgia; children, LuAnne (Don) Hruska; Curt (Cindy) Bacon; Tim (Lisa) Bacon; Sue Weiss; Mark (Kim) Bacon; Marvin (Sheila) Bacon; son-in-law, Jim Hruska; daughter-in-law, Michael Bacon; 22 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; sisters Betty Meinking, Dee (Tom) Newkirk, Karen (Joe) Hill, brothers Art (Anna) Bacon and Jerry (Sharon) Bacon and his beloved dog Molly. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Elsie (Miller) Bacon; son, David Bacon; daughter, Georgette Hruska; sister, Dolly Hayes; brothers, Lloyd Bacon; Darrell Bacon; grandson, Adam Taylor; granddaughter, April Montgomery; and great-granddaughter, Kayla Jones. George Edwin Bacon was born March 25, 1932 in Menlo, IA and was educated in Badger. He was united in marriage to Georgia Lee Matthis on June 17, 1950 at Prince of Peace Church, Fort Dodge. Ed was baptized and confirmed on October 3, 1954 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. He worked at Hormel for 31 years until his retirement. After his retirement he opened his own business, Custom Paint and Upholstery. Ed enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, and golfing. He also had a passion for riding motorcycles and liked bowling. Ed was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and treasured time spent with his family. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
