Greg Horan, 62, of Sioux City and formerly of Fort Dodge, passed away Friday March 4, 2022, at Select Specialty Hospitals in Sioux Falls, SD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday March 11, 2022 at Holy Trinity Church in Fort Dodge with Father David Hemann as celebrant. Burial will follow in Corpus Christi Cemetery. A visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 10, in the chapel of Laufersweiler Funeral Home in Fort Dodge as well as an informal memorial open house from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, March 13 at St. Michael's Parish Center in Sioux City. Greg is survived by his wife, Laura (Cassady) Horan; children Nikki Horan of Sioux City and Tyler Horan of Denver, CO; sister Jo (Don) Cloud of Fort Dodge; brother-in-law Tom Fitzgerald, Jr. of Clare; father-in-law and mother-in-law Dr. Don and Elaine Cassady of Fort Dodge; sisters-in-law Carol (Kirk) McNeil, of Marion, Gail (Randy) Martin of Platte City, MO and brother-in-law Doug (Jennifer) Cassady of Otsego, MN, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Eleanor (Lanus) Horan; sisters Mary Horan and Linda Fitzgerald. Greg Patrick Horan was born September 20, 1959 in Fort Dodge. He was raised and educated, in Fort Dodge, graduating from St. Edmond High School Class of '78. He then enrolled and graduated from the Food and Marketing Program at Iowa Central Community College. On June 13, 1981, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Laura Cassady, in Fort Dodge. The couple eventually established their home in Sioux City. He was employed with Hy-Vee for over 31 years and retired in 2007 due to his Muscular Dystrophy diagnosis. Greg enjoyed boating, fishing and cheering for his Iowa Hawkeyes! If he wasn't going to a Hawkeye football game, he was enjoying family time at Lake Panorama. He could also be found watching old episodes of "MASH." Greg was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knight's of Columbus. One thing is for certain, Greg held his family very close to his heart and will be greatly missed. Memorials may be left to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or to the discretion of the family.
