Callender Gregory W. Schmadeke 74, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2022 at Mary Greeley Medical Center, Ames. A Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at Prairie Lakes Church, Fort Dodge, with Pastor Kyle Dana officiating, and Military Flag presentation by the Iowa Army National Guard. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at the Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family. Greg is survived by his wife Amy; children, Julie (Russ) Tucker of Gowrie, Dale Schmadeke of Farnhamville, Sarah (Craig) Peters of Marion, Laura (Aaron) Chalstrom of Gowrie, Don (Miranda) Schmadeke of Dayton, and Anne (Chris) Simpson of Callender; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Susan Lane of Cumberland and Rochelle (Dick) Neppl of Alexandria, SD; brother Clay (Lana) Schmadeke of Callender; mother-in-law Janice Schaefer of Gowrie; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Elvina (Killian) Schmadeke; and infant sister Cynthia. Gregory Warren Schmadeke was born October 9, 1947 at Fort Dodge, Iowa. He graduated from Gowrie High School, with the Class of 1965, where he was the first recipient to receive the Iowa FFA Degree. He attended Iowa State University. Greg served in the Army National Guard from 1966 to 1972. On December 17, 1989 he was united in marriage to Amy Schaefer at Fort Dodge. Greg farmed for most of his life and also had worked at Star Energy and Andersons Implement until his retirement. Greg was a member of Prairie Lakes Church; served on the Prairie Valley School Board for 12 years; and enjoyed pulling at tractor pulls.
