Rockwell City Harlan "Lanny" K. Fouts 83, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at his home. A Come & Go Viewing will be 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020 at the Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City. Masks are required and only 15 people can be in attendance in the funeral home at one time. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. Lanny is survived by his children, Kim (Tony) Newman of Roseville, CA, Deb (Ken) Bohn of McCallsburg, Randy (Jean) Fouts of Urbandale, and Mick (Sarah) Fouts of Norwalk; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law Don Prior of Breda. Lanny is also survived by life companion Judith Brown of Rockwell City, and her children, Ruthann (Jay) Smith of Wales, WI, Mark (Kathy) Brown of Sheboygan, WI, and Laura (Jeff) Montgomery of Duncombe; son-in-law Mark Coleman of Ames and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Elizabeth (Moore) Fouts; and sister Susan Lee Prior. Harlan K. Fouts was born November 18, 1937 at Rockwell City. Lanny was raised and educated in Rockwell City and graduated from Rockwell City High School, with the Class of 1956. Lanny attended college for a couple years. In 1958, he was united in marriage to Donna Swalla and four children were born to this union. The couple later divorced. Lanny owned and operated the family business Fouts Well Drilling for 20 years. He worked for Baker Manufacturing in Fort Dodge for 13 years. In 1991, he moved to California and worked for the Southern Water Company until his retirement in 1999. He then returned to Rockwell City. Lanny met his life companion, Judi in 1991 and the couple enjoyed dancing and wintering in Texas for many years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Rockwell City Chamber, Iowa Water Well Association, the Jaycees, and the Masonic Lodge.
