Harold "Harry" J Mccurdy

Harold "Harry" J. McCurdy, 86, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 3rd, 2017, at Corpus Christi Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy and Rev. Owen Korte officiating. Burial will be at Corpus Christi Cemetery with military rites conducted by the U.S. Marine Corps Honor Guard and the V.F.W. Post 1856. A visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a K. of C. Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and Vigil Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. all at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. Harold is survived by his wife, Rosemary of Fort Dodge; daughter, Dr. Sheryl (Dr. Greg Maddox) McCurdy of Houston, TX; son, Terry (Terry Emma) McCurdy of Geneva, IL; daughters, Karen (Scott) Kirchner of Charlotte, NC; and Mary Kay (Alan) Savitz of Macungie, PA; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Margaret (Buehler) McCurdy; son, Dan in 2014; brothers, Stanley and Walter McCurdy; and half sister, Frances Buehler. Harold John McCurdy was born April 4, 1931 in Fort Dodge. He was raised and educated in Fort Dodge. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served from 1948 to 1952, during the Korean War. On February 19, 1955, Harold was united in marriage to Rosemary Korte at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Palmer, IA. The couple established their home in Fort Dodge. Harold studied electronics after the military; then joined the Fort Dodge Fire Department and retired after 20 years. Along with his wife, Rosemary, the couple opened McCurdy T.V. Sales and Repairs Store, which they owned and operated until they retired in 2000. Harry was a member of Holy Trinity Church and Knights of Columbus Council 613; where he served as Co-Chairman of the Tootsie Roll Drive for several years and was a past Grand Knight. He was also a member of the American Legion. Harry loved electronics and enjoyed playing Bridge. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
