Rockwell City H. Mervin Berg 83, of Rockwell City and Twin Lakes, passed away Monday, July 9, 2018 at Stewart Memorial Hospital, Lake City. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2018 at St. Pauls Lutheran & Presbyterian Church, Rockwell City, with Pastor B.J. Ukena officiating. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 12, at the Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City. Mervin is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rachel; sons, Bryant (Joann) Berg of Eden Prairie, MN, Monte (Rebecca) Berg of Cedar Falls, and Kole (Danielle) Berg of Lenexa, KS; five grandchildren, Owen (Ashley) Berg, Brittany (Marcelo) Fernandes, Brooke Berg, Blake Berg, and Megan Berg; great-granddaughter Mia Fernandes; sister, Alice "Billie" (Tony) Hardyk of Sioux City; and brother Alan (Shirley) Berg of Rockwell City; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Richard and Hulda (Johnson) Berg; sisters, Irene Johnson, Evelyn Larson, Mildred Schoepke, Gladys OTool, Laura Sidmore, and Pauline Martin; and brothers, Richard Berg Jr., Elmer Berg, and Carl Berg. Harold Mervin Berg was born January 31, 1935 at Fort Dodge. He graduated from Rockwell City High School, with the Class of 1953. On April 10, 1955 he was united in marriage to Rachel Zinnel at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Rockwell City. Mervin farmed for most of his life in the Piper area until the couple retired to their beautiful home at Twin Lakes of which Mervin help build for his wife. In January of this year, the couple made their home at Sunnyview Independent Living. Mervin was an active member of St. Pauls Lutheran & Presbyterian Church where he served on numerous boards, past School Board President, past Twin Lakes Golf Board, and New Coop Board. Mervin had a passion for farming and loved his grandchildren dearly. He also enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing cards, wintering in Florida, and traveling. SERVICES Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2018 at St. Pauls Lutheran & Presbyterian Church, Rockwell City. OFFICIATING Pastor B.J.
