Harry H. Hughes, 98, of Fort Dodge, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2016 at his home. Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 21st, at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Snook officiating. Burial will be at Corpus Christi Cemetery with Military Rites Conducted by the V.F.W. Post 1856 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. A visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Harry is survived by his daughters, Colleen Hubert of Rinard; Cindy (Keith) Holtgrewe of Bellview, NE; step-sons, Steve (Linn) Miller of Rinard; Tim (Becky) Henderson of Colorado; step-daughters, Kim (Rick) Quade of Somers; Shelly (Todd) Powers of Farnhamville; Marci (Rick) Markley of Rinard; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Bertha (Kunz) Hughes; first wife, Bernice Hughes; 4 brothers; and 3 sisters; second wife, Barbara Hughes; and his great grandson, Chase. Harry H. Hughes was born May 7, 1918 in Fort Dodge. He graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1938. Harry served our country in the United States Army during World War II from 1942 until he was honorably discharged in 1945. In 1939, he was united in marriage to Bernice Knoble and the couple made their home in Fort Dodge. He was employed with the Illinois Central Railroad as an Engine Foreman for 38 years, retiring in 1978. Harry was a member of Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and held the secretary and treasurer position for 25 to 30 years. In 1993, Harry was united in marriage to Barbara Henderson and the couple made their home in Fort Dodge. He was also a past member of Corpus Christi Church, Disabled American Veterans and the V.F.W. Post 1856. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
