Helen Bertha Hughes, 96, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the Marian Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow at Corpus Christi Cemetery with military rites presented by the VFW Post 1856. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 4:30 p.m. all at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. Helen is survived by her brother, Harry Hughes of Fort Dodge and many nieces and nephews including, Colleen Hubert of Davenport. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Bertha (Kunz) Hughes; brothers, Cecil; Joseph; Verne; Vergil; sisters, Viola Jeys and Leonora Hughes. Helen Bertha Hughes was born May 7, 1918 in Fort Dodge. She grew up in Fort Dodge and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1938. Helen was enlisted in the U.S. Navy Waves on April of 1943 and was honorably discharged on December 15, 1945. She was also employed with Fort Dodge Labs for 35 years, retiring in 1981. She was a member of Corpus Christi Church and Waves National, also known as IO-WA-VETS Central #84. Helen's hobbies included golfing and bowling. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
