Helen E Gerdes

Helen Elizabeth Gerdes, 93, of Friendship Haven, Fort Dodge, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 12, 2020. Visitation and time of prayer will be held Thursday, December 17th at 1:00 p.m. at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at Lizard Creek Township Cemetery near Clare. Helen is survived by her children, Con (Patty) Gerdes, Lois Allard, Renae (Jerry) Shipley, Cynthia (Roger) Thompson, 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren, 2 brothers; Jeff (Sandy) Hefley, Don (Judy) Hefley; 1 sister Jean (Harold) Barnes, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Geneva "Virginia" (Wynn) Hefley, husband, Con E. Gerdes, brothers Harris, Roy, & John Hefley and sister, Lucille Pooch. Helen Hefley was born April 2, 1927 in Moorland and attended school in Barnum, IA. She was united in marriage to Con Gerdes in 1948 at Lake City. The couple established their home in Milford where they owned and operated a restaurant and service station. In 1951, they moved to Tara. Helen worked for Central Lab for 20 years. They retired in 1976 and moved to Colorado Springs and then lived in Morristown, AZ from 1978 to 1987 when they returned to Fort Dodge. Helen enjoyed sewing, crafts, cooking, entertaining, and Bible Study. Memorials may be left to family discretion. Due to a family allergy, they request no memorial of flowers.
