Altoona Helen M. Hildreth 85, passed away Monday, December 27, 2021 at her home in Altoona. Graveside Services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Crown Hill Cemetery, Jolley, with Pastor Jim Davis officiating. Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City is serving the family. Helen is survived by her sons, William (Rhonda) Hildreth of Johnston, and C.J. (Karen) Hildreth of Grimes; daughter Sherri (Keith) Butters of West Des Moines; grandchildren, Samantha, Breanne, Zach, and Brooke; step-grandchildren, Eric and Mollie; step-great-grandchildren, Collins, Winnie, Sullivan, Brady, and Griffin; sister Loretta (Neil) Koeppen of Rockwell City; and other relatives and friends. Helen was preceded in death by her husband Ronald W. Hildreth; parents, John Herman and Esther (Geisinger) Stein; and brother Lawrence Stein. Helen Maxine Stein Hildreth was born April 18, 1936 in a farm house near Jolley, Iowa. She attended schools in Jolley where she battled rheumatic fever as a child. She graduated from Jolley High School with the Class of 1955, where she enjoyed basketball and cheerleading. Following her education, Helen worked at the AFC Office in Rockwell City. On April 18, 1959, she was united in marriage to Ronald W. Hildreth at Lytton, Iowa. The couple had lived in Marcus, Anita, and then made their home in Altoona. Helen worked as a school bus driver for Southeast Polk Schools and in the summers she worked at Adventureland. She enjoyed her retirement spending time with her grandchildren. Helen will be greatly missed especially during this holiday season.
