She was preceded in death by her husband Herman; granddaughter Nicole Pollard; her parents; and sisters, LaVonne Barkhoff, Doloris Ness, and Lois Peterson. Iona Margaret Mosel Lusmann was born June 3, 1920 to Henry F. and Louise (Naefke) Mosel at Farnhamville, Iowa. She was the eldest of five girls. Iona was baptized and confirmed at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Farnhamville. She grew up on a farm southwest of Farnhamville, attended country school and graduated from Lohrville Consolidated School in 1937. She attended Iowa State Teachers College for one year where she received her teaching certificate. Iona taught country school northwest of Farnhamville for four years. On June 21, 1942, she was united in marriage to Herman H. Lusmann at St. Peters and three children were born to this union. Together Herman and Iona owned and operated Lusmann Hardware until their retirement in 1982. Iona operated the store by herself while Herman served in the United States Navy during World War II. Following their retirement, the couple spent their winters in Mesa, Arizona. Herman passed away on January 1, 1988. Iona wintered in Mesa for several years after Hermans death. She enjoyed bus trips and traveled to Europe with her sister LaVonne. Iona loved her family, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and all their activities. She enjoyed a good game of bridge, Sudoku puzzles, quilting and handwork. Each grandchild received a bed quilt when they got married, and each new great-grandchild got a baby quilt. Iona liked college basketball and professional baseball, especially the Chicago Cubs. She was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Farnhamville. The family would like to thank Shady Oaks Care Center for the excellent care that our mother received. She enjoyed living there and especially enjoyed getting to know everyone who worked there. Thank you also to Kindred Hospice for their care. Iona will be greatly missed.
