Pastor Jack E. Thompkins, 78, of Fort Dodge, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Agape Church Kingdom Dominion with Pastor Joseph Barnes officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date. A visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Pastor Thompkins is survived by his wife, Pamela Murray-Thompkins of Fort Dodge; daughter, Linda Thompkins of Cedar Rapids; sons, David Thompkins of CT; Jack Jr. Thompkins of Cedar Rapids; extended family, Otis Murray Jr. of MN; Michael Murray of CA; nephew, Michael (Renee) Thompkins of Centerville; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Klifford and LuVera (Brooks) Thompkins; sister, Helen; and son, Johnny. Jack Thompkins was born on September 13, 1936 to Klifford and Luvera Thompkins in Centerville and was raised and educated there. Jack was united in marriage to Westela (Estes) and had four children: David, Jack Jr., Johnny, and Linda. He made his home in Cedar Rapids, where he was employed at Boeing Rockwell Collins. Jack worked in the wire department until he retired and was also a Union Steward. On April 23, 1999, Jack was united in marriage to Pamela S. Murray. He was the pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church for 31 years and was very involved in the community. Jack was a part of the prison ministry, he enjoyed visiting the nursing homes, and he established the Neighborhood Watch in Pleasant Valley and Family Fun Night. Jack also had great pride in hosting the Community Thanksgiving Dinners for 25 years. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
