Jim was born to Orval and Grace (Michalski) Wafful on September 23, 1948 in Fort Dodge. He attended Catholic schools in Fort Dodge, graduating from Saint Edmond High School in 1967. After high school, Jim enlisted in the United States Army serving from 1968-1970, including a tour in Vietnam. During his enlistment, he received a Purple Heart and a bronze star along with various other medals that he was awarded. Upon his honorable discharge he returned home and worked at Specks Super Value, Farner-Bocken and for over 20 years at USG. In 1996 he retired from USG due to his health. Jim enjoyed many activities during his lifetime including taking care of his dogs, hunting, fishing, reading, gardening and riding his motorcycle. HIs favorite thing though was being with his family and friends. On March 26, 1977 Jim married Sandy Allard at Sacred Heart Church in Fort Dodge and they established their home in Barnum where they lived for 44 years before returning to Fort Dodge. They were blessed with two children Jayme Smith of Fort Dodge and Benjamin (Monica) Wafful of Des Moines. Jim was very proud of them and loved them unconditionally. The icing on the cake was the birth of his two beautiful granddaughters McKayla and TayLeigh. Their grandpa was the best playmate and couldn't spend enough time with them. Jim adored them and they adored him. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brother John, numerous other relatives and countless friends. Jim was recently preceded in death by his infant great-grandson Felix James Smith Baedke infant son of McKayla Smith and Kade Baedke. He is survived by his wife of 46 years Sandy, his children Jayme and Benjamin (Monica) and granddaughters McKayla and TayLeigh. No one will ever take his place and we will love and miss him forever!
