James Harold Harms

James H. Harms, 87, of Fort Dodge passed away Saturday. May 7, 2022 at Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. A prayer service will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2022 at Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Following will be a visitation from 4:00 to 6:00 at the funeral home. James is survived by his wife of 63 years Karole, children Marcy Harms, Scott Harms both of Fort Dodge, and Laura Harms of Montgomery, TX, siblings Alvina Carlson of Algona, IA, Betty and John Monaghan of Waverly, IA, Harris and Betty Harms of Algona, IA, Ruth and Gary Davis of Waverly, IA, Mary & Norman Carlson of Clarion, IA, and Norma and Bob Ruhnke of Algona, IA. Jim is also survived by his in-laws Sylvia (Andrews wife), LeRoy Davis (Helen's husband), Shelley (David's wife). He was preceded in death by his parents Jesse and Alleda Harms, brothers Andrew and David, sisters, Helen and twins Donna and Doris, daughter-in-law Karen Harms, and his brother-in-law, Phillip Carlson. James Harms was born November 20, 1934 in Titonka. He attended schools in Burt and graduated from Burt High School. After graduating he enlisted in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged in 1959. That same year he moved to Fort Dodge and was united in marriage to Karole Eden in 1959 at First United Methodist Church. Jim worked for Miltwell Construction in Fort Dodge and later Iowa Beef. In 1983, the couple moved to Montgomery, Texas. While living there, Jim drove truck for Pepsi and retired in 2000. The couple returned to Fort Dodge in 2018. Jim enjoyed gardening and spending time with family and friends. He will be truly missed by his family and friends. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
