James Hindt

December 21, 1938 — March 4, 2025

James L. Hindt, 86, of Rockwell City passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at Accura Healthcare in Lake City.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Immanuel Lutheran Church east of Rockwell City. Burial will happen at a later date. A visitation will be 4:00 to 6:00 PM Friday at Laufersweiler's Palmer-Swank Funeral Home.

Jim is survived by his wife, Linda Hindt of Rockwell City; daughters, Jodie Hatlestad of Fort Dodge and Jana (Shaun) Blunt of Rockwell City; son, Jim (Melissa) Hindt of Webster City; step sons, Scott (Sonja) Ballstadt of Windsor, CO and Travis Ballstadt (Rebecca Laster) of Seattle, WA; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Leona Heidebrink of Bigelow, MN and sister-in-law, Shirley Hindt of Sheldon.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Judy Klatt; parents, Arthur and Emma (Schemmel) Hindt; great-grandchildren, Joseph and Austyn; sisters, Dorothy Widholm, Lilian Harms, and Betty Kruger; and brothers, LeRoy, Edward, Charles, Marion, and Gale.

James Leland Hindt was born December 21, 1938 in Little Rock, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Little Rock, graduating high school in 1957. Jim enlisted in the United States Army and served until his honorable discharge in1960; serving two years in Germany. In 1961, he was united in marriage to Judy Klatt. The couple made their home in Sibley. Jim drove a milk route from 1960 to 1965 when the couple moved to Rockwell City and established their new home. In 1988, Judy passed away. On June 22, 1991, Jim was united in marriage to Linda Brugman Ballstadt. Jim worked for Hunt Truck Line as the terminal manager from 1965 to1994. He then worked for Heilig-Meyers furniture store for a few years before going to work for Carver Motors that later became Champion Chrysler. He retired in 2006 and worked part-time for Palmer-Swank Funeral Home until 2022. Jim was active in the community as a past president of Rotary and a Paul Harris fellow. He also served on the county compensation board for a number of years. Jim was a past board president of Sunnyview Independent Living. He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served in many capacities. Jim was a people person and made friends wherever he went. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
