James L. Johnson, 95, of Moorland passed away Thursday, September 12, 2019 at Journeys, Friendship Haven. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 16, 2019 at Fulton Lutheran Church, Roelyn with Rev. Jim Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Fulton Lutheran Cemetery in Roelyn. A visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. James is survived by his son, James L. Johnson Jr. and his wife Margene; daughter, Dr. Kristin Sears-Seiber and her husband Dean all of Moorland; one granddaughter, Jennifer Keen and her husband Donald of Houston, TX; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Marie (Torgerson) Johnson; wife of 63 years, Gwen in 2013; brother, Conrad Johnson; sisters, Joyce Knutson, Donna Anderson, and Ruth Cohoon. James Luther Johnson was born March 29, 1924 in Bradgate, IA. He graduated from Thor High School in 1941. He served in the US Army during WWII, where he received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. After his honorable discharge, he entered college where he met and married Gwendolyn Loehr on August 28, 1949. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1950. He began teaching in Anthon, Iowa and at Moorland High School until farming with his father-in-law became a full-time job. Memorials may be left at the family discretion.
