Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home is serving the family. James leaves his wife, Rita (Hirsch DeWall) Miller of Twin Lakes; his children, Angie (Ron) Brenizer of Norwalk, Iowa, Tony (Molly) Miller of Redwood Falls, MN, Danny (Jessi) Miller of Ankeny, Iowa, and Bill Miller of Arlington, VA, step-children Ross DeWall of Somers, Iowa and Adam DeWall of Palmer, Iowa; eleven grandchildren, Marcia, Madison, Allison, Makenna, Abby, Lauren, Marissa, AJ, Maci, Mila and Thomas; and three step-granchildren, Kody, Kailee and Otto and brother, Verle Miller. James was born August 18, 1943 to the late Eldon and Laurene (Storck) Miller. He was raised on a farmstead near Manson, Iowa with his brother, Verle. It was at that young age, he learned to farm, fish and developed a love for flying airplanes from his dad; who ran a small airport in Manson. After graduating from Manson High School in 1961, he was employed with ABCO New Idea and began farming. For several decades he farmed, grew turkeys and raised his children. Jim also worked as a rural mail carrier giving 42 years 11 months of service to the US Post Office. Jim married Rita on October 11, 2014, with hopes to share their golden years together traveling and enjoying life. There wasn't much Jim did not have a passion for. JIM LIVED LIFE. He never met a stranger he could not visit with. He was a 'picker' before picking was cool. He was an avid fisherman, pilot, card player, truck puller, stock car racer, car collector, travel companion, seed salesman, snowmobile racer, remote control car racer, motorcyclist, Costco shopper, and hunter but most of all our brother, friend, uncle, grandpa, husband and father. Unless otherwise directed by donor, memorials may be made to: Jim Miller memorial fund to be distributed at family's discretion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be delivered to United Bank of Iowa, 417 4th Street, Rockwell City, IA 50579.
