Janet Anderson

March 29, 1936 — March 3, 2025

Janet I. Anderson, 88, of Rockwell City passed away Monday, March 3, 2025 at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City, surrounded by family. Those who knew her best will unanimously agree that she kept her wisdom and spirit throughout her earthly life, and she was ready to enter the Kingdom of Heaven when her time came.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Spirit of Hope Church in Rockwell City. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery at a later date. A visitation will be 10:00 AM until noon Thursday at the church. Laufersweiler's Palmer-Swank Funeral Home is serving the family.

Janet is survived by her children, Sherrie (Frank) Liebenow of Treasure Island, FL, Steve (Rita) Anderson of Washington, IA, Tom (Kristy) Anderson of Rockwell City, and Paulette (Ron) Wheeler of Johnston; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William Anderson; parents, Everett and Alice "Velma" (Hall) Wendt; stepfather Albert "Vide" Stringer, and brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Donna Wendt.

Janet Irene Wendt was born March 29, 1936, in Twin Lakes Township. She attended area schools and graduated as valedictorian of her class from Rockwell City High School in 1954. She then began nursing school in Sioux City. On December 29, 1955, she was united in marriage to William Anderson. She became a devoted Army wife and committed mother, staying home to raise her family. When she wasn't at a school event or serving her church, she kept the cleanest home around and always had baked goods ready for anyone who visited. Upon her husband's retirement she became a proofreader for the Calhoun County Reminder.

Janet loved bird watching; any bird from a finch to an oriole or her cherished cardinals. She was an avid card player; you always wanted to be her euchre partner, and she rarely lost a game of cribbage. Janet's grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the apples of her eye. She was always excited to spend time with family and friends and without fail put the wants and needs of others before her own. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to Sunnyview Independent Living in Janet's memory.
