Janice Engle

Janice Colleen Engle, 84, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many others, was called home to be with our Lord and Savior May 16, 2024. She is survived by her husband, William (“Bill”) Engle and son Dale (Sharon) Engle. Janice was predeceased by her parents Gerald (“Bub”) and Arlene Foley, siblings Gerald (“Jerry”) Foley, Sandra (“Sandi”) Wiemers, and grandson Jacob Engle.

Janice was born in Rockwell City, Iowa on November 3, 1939. She attended school in Rockwell City, Iowa and graduated from high school in 1957. After graduation, she moved with her parents to Portland, Oregon. In December of 1957, she was engaged to William (“Bill”) Engle, and they were married in Portland, Oregon August 23, 1959. On April 5, 1961, she gave birth to her only child, a son, Dale Engle. In the fall of 1961, she was hired by the law firm of Schwabe, Williamson and Wyatt as a receptionist, a position she held until her retirement in 1992.

During her almost 65 years of marriage to Bill, they camped, fished and water skied at many of the lakes and rivers in Oregon. Janice and Bill learned to square dance which took them to various places in the US, Canada and two Caribbean cruises. Her son Dale married Sharon Scherrer on July 6, 1985, and then Janice became a grandmother on August 28, 1990, when her grandson Jacob was born.

Janice and Bill retired in 1992 and moved to Yuma, AZ. While in Yuma, they each took up golf and became involved in their church, Stone Ridge. While in Yuma, her sister Sandi (Norm) and her brother Jerry (Patty) also came to Yuma to enjoy the sunshine. They had the best of times golfing, dining together, and spending time with each other. During the summer months to escape the heat, they would travel to Snowflake, AZ and then to Portland, OR to play golf, and to spend time with Dale, Sharon, and Jacob.

Janice will be remembered for her love of family, kindness to others, a servant’s heart, and her ever-present smile.

A graveside service will be 1:00 PM Friday, June 7, 2024 at Rosehill Cemetery in Rockwell City.
