Jan L. Coleman, 81, of Fort Dodge, passed away October 12, 2018 at Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Corpus Christi Church. Burial will be at St. James Cemetery, Clare. A visitation will be Monday 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home with a Rosary at 4:00 PM and a Vigil Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. She is survived by her children, Bruce (Angela) Coleman of Forestville, WI; Anne (Scott) Kerwien of Camarillo, CA; Laurie (Jerry) Hall of Camarillo, CA; Daniel Coleman of Oak Park, IL; her special niece, Mary (Mike) Solverson; grandchildren, Beth (K.C.) Schmidt and their children, Dahlia and Harper; Joshua Coleman Kerwien; Cal Solverson; Alex James Coleman Hall; Kade Solverson; several nieces and nephews; and sister, Linda Oliver of Irmo, SC. Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Orville; parents, Edwin and Violet (Dillingham) Oliver; and brother, Melvin "Butch" Oliver. Jan was born in Ft Dodge, but at age 6 years the family moved to Winslow AZ. After high school graduation in 1955 she returned to Ft Dodge planning to only be here for the summer, then go to Texas Tech for Nursing School. After 4 days as an aide at Lutheran Hospital, she knew she had to change her plans. She was employed at Central Telephone Co in Ft Dodge from 1955 to 1957. On May 18, 1957 she was united in marriage to Orville Coleman at Sacred Heart Church in Ft Dodge. The couple moved to Omaha for several years, moving later to Clare IA and in 1969 the family moved to Ft Dodge. Jan worked for the Social Security Adm. For over 20 years, retiring in 1997. She has been very active at the Bethany House, she has been co-director and president of the board for many years. She was an active member of Holy Rosary Parish, and when the churches combined into one parish was involved at Holy Trinity Parish. Jan has been active in Al-Anon, Bible Studies and many other programs directed at a closer relationship with God. Jan loved her family and friends and cherished the time they spent together. She loved to bake and cook and enjoyed sharing her cooking with family and friends. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left to the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home.
