Janice M. Underwood, 82, of Fort Dodge passed away April 28, 2015 at her home. Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral and the Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating. Burial will follow at Corpus Christi Cemetery. A visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday with a vigil at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Janice is survived by her children, Steve (Paula) Underwood of Oregon City, OR; Julie (Jim) Bratland of Eugene, OR; Kyle (Renee) Underwood of Fort Collins, CO; Michelle (Ron) Garrett; Scott (Meka) Underwood both of Fort Dodge; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, Elaine Nugent; Michael Messerly both of Council Bluffs; and Kathy Banas of Marietta, MS. She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Delores Messerly; husband, Joseph Underwood; and grandson, Jeffery. Janice was born February 8, 1933 in Fort Dodge. She graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High and then was united in marriage to Joseph Underwood on June 8, 1951. The couple established their home in Fort Dodge where, Janice worked as a bookkeeper for Mid-Country Lumber. She also worked at Globe Union for several years. Janice was then employed at the Cinema IV Movie Theater and Randalls grocery store. She worked for St. Edmonds Food Service for seven years before her retirement. Janice was a Rosarian, union steward for the local 816, lifetime member of TOPS, and a past board member for Central Labs Credit Union. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
