Jean Lake, 70, of Fort Dodge passed away Friday, May 3, 2013 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home after an 18-month battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 8, 2013 in the Chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 Am at Sacred Heart Church, with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow at Corpus Christi Cemetery. A visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 Tuesday with a Vigil at 7:00 at the funeral home. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Elba Lake of Fort Dodge; son and special friend Gary Lake and Julie Staub of Urbandale, son and wife Dan and Annie Lake of Ogden; and son and wife Kyle and Aimee Lake of Byron, Minn. Jean is also survived by seven grandchildren: Carlie, Dylan and Delanie Lake of Urbandale; Nathan and Charlie Lake of Ogden; and Ryann and Lydie Lake of Byron, Minn. Survivors also include: two brothers; Edward (Rose Mary) Ruddy of Fort Dodge and Jim (LuAnn) Ruddy of Polk City; and one sister, Rita (Paul) Reedy of Fort Dodge. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Wilma (Lawhorn) Ruddy of Fort Dodge; sister and brother-in-law Dolores and Stephen Hamas of Phoenix, Ariz.; an infant sister; and Elba's parents - Howard and Marcelyn Lake. Jean was born on May 13, 1942 at Emmetsburg and moved to Fort Dodge as an infant with her family. She married Elba Lake of Webster City on Aug. 18, 1962 at Sacred Heart. Jean graduated from Fort Dodge St. Edmond High School in 1960 and AIB of Des Moines before a 35-year career at First Federal Savings Bank. She retired in 2007. Jean's hobbies included cheering for the St. Edmond Gaels, Iowa State Cyclones, Chicago Bears, Phoenix Suns and St. Louis Cardinals and gardening. She also enjoyed spending time at her Okoboji summer home with the "Lower Gar-ian Gang," who she considered to be a part of her extended family. The family would like to thank Dr. Larry Otteman, Sister "Trudy" Keefe, Monsignor McCoy, Father Shane, Chaplain Phil Somsen and the staffs at Trinity Regional Hospital Cancer Center and Paula J.
