Gene (Jean) Everett Maschino was born March 5, 1936 on a farm near Pomeroy to John Everett and Evelyn (Hinrichs) Maschino. He moved with his parents and twin sister, Joan, to Fort Dodge in 1938, where he made his home ever since. Gene received his education in the Fort Dodge school system. He entered the U.S. Army in 1960, serving in Korea until his honorable discharge in 1962. A mechanic by trade, Gene owned and operated Maschino's Garage for over 36 years. His customers often referred to him as "that honest mechanic." Gene had many hobbies and interests including bowling, drag racing, attending car shows, motorcycle riding, pheasant hunting, mushroom hunting, and watching Westerns, the Dallas Cowboys, and NASCAR. His favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at Amigo's. His quick wit and storytelling will be missed by all.
