Jerry D. Lawton, 74, of Fort Dodge passed away Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Trinity Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Dawson Township Cemetery near Paton. A visitation will be Monday 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Jerry is survived by his wife, Cheryl; children, J.C. (Janice) of Blue Springs, MO; David (Michelle) of Fort Dodge; Susan (Jeff) Frahm of Gowrie; Chris (Shelly) Anderson of Columbia, SC; Matt (Jennifer) Anderson of Stratford; fourteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and brother, Jim Lawton of Boxholm. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Isabelle (Gibbons) Lawton and sister, Judy Conklin. Jerry Dean Lawton was born February 24, 1940 in Cooper, Iowa. He attended Paton Schools and graduated from Paton High School. He then attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake. Following his education Jerry farmed on the family farm in the Paton area. On June 14, 1959 he was united in marriage to Marilyn Biven. To this Union three children were born. The couple later divorced. On May of 1979 Jerry was united in marriage to Cheryl Ewing and the couple made their home in Fort Dodge. In 1980, Jerry began driving truck independently until 1990 when he began driving for Van Diest. Jerry retired in 2001. "Big-Foot" loved to fish and hunt. He enjoyed cooking and gardening. Jerry was an avid Hawkeye fan but most of all Jerry cherished his grandchildren. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
