November 14, 1946 — June 16, 2013

Jerry D. Summers, 66, of Lehigh passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home after a sudden illness. Funeral services will be Thursday June 20th at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home with Rev. Allen Henderson officiating. Following the service at the funeral home military rites will be presented by the Duncombe American Legion Post #491. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Jerry is survived by his wife Sue; sons, Jerry Summers and his wife Sarah of Marshalltown, IA; Dan Summers and his wife Crystal of Fort Dodge; grandchildren, Nicholas, Caleb, Hannah, Dillon, and Devin; brothers, Wilbur (Carol) Summers of Auburndale, FL; Jack (Carol) Summers of Roland, IA; nephew, Greg (Kristin) Summers of Lehigh; sisters, Delores Griffee of Providence, RI; Darlene (Jack) Montgomery of Duncombe, IA; and Diane (Darrell) Hoover of Catoosa, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Margaret (Ekstrom) Summers and an infant brother. Jerry D. Summers was born on November 14, 1946, in Fort Dodge. He grew up just east of Fort Dodge in the town Evanston. Jerry graduated from Burnside High School. Following his education he joined the U.S. Marine Corp and served during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968. Upon receiving his honorable discharge Jerry returned home where he worked at Celotex for nearly 36 years. On June 20, 1969, he was united in marriage to Sue Dillingham. Jerry enjoyed being in the country, traveling, riding horses and motorcycles. His family meant everything to him. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family. Visitation Service
