Jerry "Jb" Black

Jerry "JB" Black, 65 of Fort Dodge, passed away Friday, December 21, 2018 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home after a long courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Corpus Christi Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow in Corpus Christi Cemetery. A visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. Jerry is survived by his wife, Mary Ann of Fort Dodge; daughters, Carrie Rock, Amy (Luke) Moffitt, and Sara (Nick) Carlson all of Fort Dodge; grandchildren, Jade and Braylon Rock, Layla and Lainey Moffitt, and Bo Carlson; twin brother, Jeff (Athlyn) Black of Ringsted and brother, Joe (Sue) Black of Fort Dodge; nieces, nephews, cousins, and his loving dog, Macy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Geraldine (Lennon) Black; an infant brother; an infant nephew, Patrick; and his beloved dog of 10 years, Sadie. Jerry Black was born July 6, 1953 in Fort Dodge. He attended Fort Dodge public schools and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1971. He completed his A.A. degree at Iowa Central Community College in Eagle Grove where he was part of the "Pirates" wrestling team. In 1983, Jerry was united in marriage to Mary Ann Walsh. Jerry was a dedicated, hard-working man and that showed in his 40+ year employment at Fort Dodge Asphalt. He was a proud father and grandfather and never skipped an opportunity to let others know this. One of his greatest joys was spending time at Twin Lakes where he stayed busy moving boat lifts, fishing, swimming, shining his boat, and spending time with his family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
