Joan E. George, 91, of Moorland, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society in Manson. Funeral services will be 10:30 Saturday, March 16, 2019 in the chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating. A visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Joan is survived by her children, John George of Davenport, Kenneth (Ann) George of Clare, Gary George of Manson, Mary Ellen Schultz of Moorland, and Annette (Bill) Huse of Milford; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sister, Lavonne (Wempe) Rude; and long-time companion, Bill Bloom. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Christine (Reiff) Wempe; husband, William George in 2012; and brother, Floyd Wempe. Joan Esther Wempe was born May 13, 1927 in Clayworks, Iowa. She attended schools in Otho and upon her family moving to Fort Dodge, graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1944. On February 14, 1946, she was united in marriage to William C. George at Corpus Christi Church in Fort Dodge. The couple made their home on a farm near Clare and farmed together. She worked various jobs including, Hy-Vee for over 20 years, Randalls, Earl May and Schwesers for a period of time. Joan enjoyed traveling south to Texas during the winters for 45 years. Family was very important to Joan and she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also loved the outdoors. Memorials may be left to family discretion.
