Joan Groat

Joan Groat, 73, of Humbolt passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at her home. A Visitation and Celebration of Joan's life will be held on Tuesday, March 22nd from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Laufersweiler Funeral Home. She is survived by her children Rodney (Shirley) Groat of Fort Dodge, Mike (Katie) of Badger, grandchildren Megan Paxson Page of California, Tyler, Lilyan, Keegan, and Griffin Groat of Humboldt, brother Jack (Charlotte) Johnson, sister Jan (Bill) Ueltschy, several nieces and nephews. Joan was preceded in death by her parents Guy and Jessie (Jack) Johnson, husband Lanny Groat in 2010, daughter Roxanne Paxson-Collins, grandson Corey Groat. Joan G. Johnson was born on August 2nd, 1948, in Lake City. She was raised on the family farm in Farnhamville and attended Farnhamville Elementary School. In 1966, she graduated from Cedar Valley High School. Joan then attended La' James International College of Hairstyling. In 1972 she was united in marriage to Leonard "Lanny" Groat and the couple made their home outside of Badger. She worked for several years in the Food Service including the Sandstone Inn, Hy-Vee, and the Backseat Diner. Joan loved to spend time with her family, especially attending her grandchildren's events and activities. They were her pride and joy. She was great cook and loved her cats.
