Joan M. Johanson, 88, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Monday, January 17th, 2022, at Trinity Regional Medical Center. No services are planned at this time. Laufersweiler Funeral Home is serving the family. She is survived by her son David (Loretta) Johanson of Clive, granddaughter Kimberly Johanson, brother Walter Halligan of Waterloo. She was preceded by her parents Clarence and Clara (Hayek) Halligan, husband Theodore "Ted" Johanson, daughter Jacque Johanson, brothers Robert and Phillip Halligan. Joan M. Halligan was born on June 25, 1933, in Callender, IA. She attended school in Moorland and graduated from Moorland High School in 1951. On January 28, 1952, Joan was united in marriage to Theodore Johanson at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Moorland. She became one of the first women in Iowa to attain her pilot's license. Joan loved to fly with her husband Ted. The couple made their home on a farm near Gowrie. Joan worked for Webster Calhoun Telephone Company for 19 years. In 1982, she established Joan Johanson Enterprise where she excelled as a motivational speaker. She was a past International Director for Toastmasters, member of the National Speakers Association, Our Lady of Good Counsel Church and later Rolling Hills Community Church.
