John Dennis O'Brien

John D. O'Brien, 86, of Fort Dodge passed away Friday, June 9, 2017 at the Marian Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at 10:00 A.M at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 at Sacred Heart Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating, the Mass of Christian Burial. There will be a visitation Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. John is survived by his children, Steve (Flordelina) O'Brien of Clarion; Paula (Patrick) Habermann of Huxley; Thomas (Martha) O'Brien of Fort Dodge; Lisa Bernardt of St. Paul, MN; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Geraldine Markle of Gettysburg, PA; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, John J. and Anastasia (Sullivan) O'Brien; brothers, Bernard; Maurice; and Eugene M. O'Brien; and his sister, Margaret Agnes Strosnider. John was born January 6, 1931 in Fort Dodge. He was raised in Duncombe and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1949. On August 19, 1950 he was united in marriage to Connie Stell. The couple established their home in Duncombe. John worked in the farming industry his entire adult life. He held management positions at Fort Dodge Grain Terminal, Cargill Inc. and New Co-op. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
