John Edward Scully

December 30, 1938 — February 24, 2014

John E. Scully, 75, of Fort Dodge, passed away Monday, February 24, 2014. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 1st, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home with Rev. Allen Henderson officiating. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery with Military Rites Conducted by the V.F.W. Post 1856 and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. A visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. John is survived by his daughter, MaChelle (Kirk) Showers of Callender; sons, Keith (Deedra) Scully of San Diego, CA and Patrick (Karri) Scully of Dayton; 10 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; brother, Michael Scully of Des Moines; and sister, Patricia Vitello of Missouri. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jean; parents, John and Vera (Kness) Scully; and two infant sons, Lee and Robert; brother, Richard Scully. John Edward Scully was born on December 30, 1938 in Fort Dodge. He attended and graduated from Fort Dodge public schools. In January of 1957, John went into the U.S. Navy and was discharged December of 1960. John was united in marriage to Jean Nelson on August 23, 1958. He then came back to Fort Dodge and worked at U.S.G. for five years. In 1975, John worked at Bob's Tire, now Pingel Tire, until 1983. At that time, he started working at Villa Care as maintenance supervisor. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
