John Engler

John "Jack" Engler, 86, of Fort Dodge passed away Monday, January 11, 2016 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice House. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Corpus Christi Cemetery. A visitation will be Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with a Rosary Service at 6:00 p.m., at the church. Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home is serving the family. Jack is survived by his sons, Bruce (Dorothy) of Bloomington, MN and Michael (Helaine) of Fort Dodge; daughters, Karen (Lonnie) Jensen of Lake In the Hills, IL; Julie (Adolph) Kochendorfer of Fort Dodge; and Jane (Brian) Yung of Sioux City; grandchildren, Conrad and Theresa Engler; Tyler and Kylie Jensen; Alecia and John Engler; Veronica Hollister; Jackson Kochendorfer; Ally, Lauren, and Caroline Yung; great-grandchildren, Colin; Flynn; and Nora. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Margaret (Mulholland) Engler; wife, Catherine; and sister, Jean (Gordon) Scott. John William Engler was born February 24, 1929 in Fort Dodge. He graduated from Sacred Heart School High School in 1947. He served in the United States Army from 1951 until 1953 during the Korean Conflict. Jack was united in marriage to Catherine McDonald on May 2, 1953 and the couple established their home in Fort Dodge. Jack worked for Decker's Sporting Goods, formerly Kautzky's for over 40 years, retiring in 1993. He continued to work part-time until 1995. Jack had a passion for St. Edmond and The University of Notre Dame athletics. He treasured time spent with his grandchildren, and they brought him the greatest joy. Jack's wife, Kye, was the love of his life and they created countless memories together throughout their 59 years of marriage. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
